AsBEA Signs an Agreement with MIPIM to Promote the Participation of Brazilian Firms in the Fair

By Pedro Coelho, Built by Brazil Program manager

AsBEA, through the Built by Brazil Program, maintained by AsBEA-SP, established an agreement to encourage the participation of Brazilian architecture and urban planning offices in the largest fair in the global real estate market.

 What is MIPIM?

Le marché international des professionnels de l immobilier, known internationally as MIPIM, welcomes public and private agents for urban planning, project development and financing, as well as related services such as property management and portfolios. In the 2023 edition, which will happen between March 14 and 17, always in Cannes, France, MIPIM expects representatives from more than 2,400 companies, 80 countries and 480 speakers to show projects, commercial meetings, the MIPIM Awards and the discussiona of  relevant topics such as ?Road to Net Zero?, the path to zero carbon emissions in the planning and construction sector.

In its own definition: ?In crafting a unique urban festival during 4 days in Cannes, MIPIM influences and accelerates the transformation of the built environment. MIPIM is a catalyst for concrete solutions, combining face-to-face discussions, thought leadership, development opportunities and global capital to drive change. We connect and inspire the international real estate community to create more sustainable, liveable and prosperous places for all.?

MIPIM launches its Road to Zero Initiative

The real estate sector needs to achieve net operating carbon emissions by 2030 and total emissions by 2050 to meet Paris Agreement targets. This year, MIPIM decided to dedicate an entire area to this challenge, which gives the global real estate sector a chance to offset its carbon footprint. The Road to Net Zero initiative brings together protagonists from all aspects of the built environment: from traditional companies to cutting-edge Proptechs, to consultancies and the world's brightest thinkers in the battle for sustainability.

Agreement between AsBEA and MIPIM to promote the participation of Brazilian architecture firms:

In 2022, more than 226 architecture firms from 20 countries participated at MIPIM, with AsBEA being the only participating Brazilian architecture and urbanism entity. With the goal of structuring the expantion of the participation of Brazilian architecture and urbanism offices, AsBEA, through Built by Brazil, the Program for the internationalization of Brazilian architecture firms, maintained by AsBEA-SP, signed in early 2023 a Gentlemen´ s Agreement with MIPIM. This agreement allows AsBEA´s associated firms with discounted access to participate in the fair, gradually promoting the amplification of the firms' participation and the international promotion of Brazilian architecture.

Why is AsBEA going to MIPIM?

Through Built by Brazil, AsBEA works actively for the International Promotion of Brazilian architecture and urban planning companies, with the Built by Brazil MIPIM Mission being its main International Promotion action. With architecture projects exported to France and Chile by Brazilian firms that attended the 2019 edition, MIPIM promotes business roundtables specifically aimed at architecture and urbanism projects, mainly in the segments: hospitality, healthcare, infrastructure, logistics and co-living. In addition, since 2022 AsBEA supports Apex-Brasil in the realization of the Brazil Pavilion at MIPIM, aimed at attracting investments to real estate projects in Brazil, with the objective of expanding the portfolio of projects carried out in the country, and consequently the offer of services to Brazilian firms.

What will the AsBEA Built by Brazil MIPIM 2023 Mission look like:

Expanding its participation compared to 2022, when it held a stand, in 2023 Apex-Brasil will hold the Brazil Pavilion at MIPIM, for which AsBEA has been collaborating through Built by Brazil, since February 2022. The Pavilion will provide an exhibition of architecture and urbanism projects in the development phase for the attraction of international investments. In order to support Apex-Brasil in the selection of high standard projects, AsBEA held an open call with the participation of 11 offices from 5 Brazilian states and the selection of 2 projects by the offices: Nasser Hissa (CE) and Konigsberger Vannucchi (SP). Projects under development will allow the participation of both architects and developer clients, demonstrating AsBEA's ability to articulate key players in the production chain for business structuring, directly meeting Apex-Brasil's request for the qualification of participants of the Brazil Pavilion at MIPIM 2023.

In addition to displaying projects, selected by AsBEA, the Brasil Pavilion will also feature the exhibition of projects selected by Apex-Brasil and a schedule of activities aimed at attracting investments for them. To this end, apart form the panels for displaying featured projects, the Pavilion has a pitching area where representatives of participating companies can present project details to potential investors selected by Apex via the matchmaking process.
